Zanzibar Holidays
Known as the Spice Island, the beautiful island of Zanzibar is an exquisite member of Africa’s East coast, boasting gorgeous coastlines, white sand beaches, crystal waters and dreamy views. As a semi-autonomous part of Africa’s Tanzania, Zanzibar is comprised of a variety of islands that includes two main ones: Unguja and Pemba, along with many other smaller surrounding islands, too.
A History of Zanzibar
For travellers interested in the heritage and history of their holiday destination, Zanzibar is steeped in history, with people having lived in the area for over 20,000 years. Both islands are believed to have been once part of the African mainland, and the original inhabitants of the island were the Bantu. More recently, in 1963, the islands gained independence from Britain and the islands are now part of the United Republic of Tanzania, as the islands remain today.
Weather in Zanzibar
The temperature and weather conditions in Zanzibar fluctuates with the seasons, with a distincy dry season and wet season, but the temperature remains hot year-round, making Zanzibar an excellent destination for some winter sun: particularly as February is the areas hottest month.
We recommend taking a holiday to Zanzibar between October and March to enjoy the very best that the region’s weather and beaches have to offer, and avoiding the summer months of April – August, as these are the wettest for the region.
Zanzibar Holidays
The islands don’t just boast amazing sunshine, picturesque beaches and beautiful blue waters. Zanzibar holidays give travellers and guests the opportunity to visit not just these exotic beaches, but the islands’ spice plantations, historic Stone Town – which is a UNESCO World Heritage site as well as the capital, and gorgeous culture, tradition and rare and endangered species, too. Holidays to Zanzibar are a truly unforgettable experience.
