Highlights:
Amboseli National Park offers excellent game viewing and the best views of Mount Kilimanjaro. The world's tallest free-standing mountain is actually located just across the border in Tanzania, but Amboseli has a postcard-perfect view of its snow-capped peaks.
Streams from Kilimanjaro surface in the centre of Amboseli, creating wetlands that support a rich diversity of wildlife and most of the classic big mammals are there. The species list includes lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, spotted hyena, giraffe and cheetah, and bird watchers will be happy with a bird list that tops 300 species.
Tsavo is the largest national park in Kenya and one of the largest in the world. The park was split into two due to the railway line from Mombasa to the interior of Kenya.
Tsavo West National Park is mountainous, with swamps, Lake Jipe and the Mzima Springs. It is known for bird life and for its large mammal’s including black rhino, Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, hippo and Masai lion. There are also other smaller animals that can be spotted in the park, such as the bush baby, hartebeest, lesser kudu and Maasai giraffe.
Tsavo East is a photographer's dream. Large elephant herds roam the vast scrubland plains that make up most of the terrain. Lugard's Fall, another highlight, with the waters of the Galana river rushing through water polished rocks. Crocodiles and hippos live downstream and can best be seen at Crocodile Point.
