JATILUWIH BATUKARU MOUNTAIN NATURE’S BEST TOUR

This tour introduces the visitor to Bali's historic agriculture - which is still part of today. The Jatiluwih region, located around 700 meters above sea level and near the second tallest volcano, Mount Batukaru, offers fertile soil and spectacular scenery. The combination of both encouraged the world bodies to declare this a UNESCO Heritage Site.

To the uninitiated, the steep contour of the land would make irrigation an insurmountable obstacle. The Balinese perfected the art of terracing, one of the methods in agriculture management. In the 11th Century, they developed Subak, an irrigation system based on the Balinese Hindu's religious rituals and beliefs. The idea is to be in harmony with nature and maintain a balance between man and his fellows, man with nature and man with the Creator. Subak is listed as one of the UNESCO cultural heritage sites in 2012.

Visitors find an abundance of tropical fruits, spices, vegetables and flowers growing here. It is no wonder that the community is considered Bali's farming elite. For the Balinese, land cultivations are a creative art and a communal effort. The people of Jatiluwih have created a true masterpiece - an endless and intricate jigsaw of finely carved rice terraces in brilliant shades of green, with glistening waters soothing to the eye. This seven-hour trip includes a trip through to the remote Pura Luhur Batukaru temple, whose name derives from Luhur, which means head/above/holiest and Batukaru (meaning the mountain Batukaru). For the Balinese Hindus, this sacred temple holds special mystical powers and is the place to worship the deities that live in the Batukaru mountain. Worry not - there is a rest stop included along the way (meals and drinks, food only).
