Early this morning around 6.00 am with a packed breakfast explore the astonishing Sigiriya Rock Fortress. A climb in the early hours of the morning is the best experience, the cooler weather coupled with the rising sun will be a treat. As the day goes on, the rising temperature may hinder a comfortable climb with 1200 steps to the summit. The excursion time will be approximately 2 hours in total.

The Sigiriya Rock Fortress which is renowned throughout the world for its once-spectacular 5th century palace built on top of the rock flanked by protective garrisons, a crocodile filled moat and juxtaposing, complex system with beautiful gardens. King Kasyapa who built the Fortress devised a system to transfer water between the top and the foot of the rock, which is one most incredible engineering knowledge in Sri Lanka’s Ancient History. The kings bathing pool found on top of the rock holds water year throughout and it is still an unsolved mystery as to how water is taken to the top of the rock without visible piping. With a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape it was the perfect location for a Fortress of a King anticipating an invasion. The ruins of the palace can still be seen, including a giant lion’s paw which marked the entrance and the ancient cave paintings mid-way to the top.

Return to your hotel and relax, freshen up and prepare for your next experience, Jeep Safari in either Minneriya, Eco or Kaudulla National Parks. The afternoon safari which begins at 3.00 pm is highly recommended as the sightings of elephants are quite frequent. You will be picked up from your hotel in a private jeep around 2.30pm. Total time of the safari will be around 2-3 hours.

Located in the cultural triangle all three parks are among the best parks to see Elephants in the island, with large heard of Elephants migrating between each park for during different seasons. The 8890 hectares of the National Park is an ideal eco-tourism location consisting of mixed evergreen forests, but the central feature of the park is the ancient Minneriya Tank. During the dry season (June to September), this tank is an incredible place to observe the elephants who come to bathe and graze on the grasses as well as the huge flocks of birds that come to fish in.

Today you will be transferred to Kandy known as the “Hill Capital” of Sri Lanka. Enroute you will visit the Dambulla Cave Temple.

Transfer time from Habarana to Kandy: 2 hours 30 minutes approximately.

Dambulla Cave Temple – located in the north central province this UNESCO World Heritage Site which dates back to the 01st century BC, is an amazing complex of 05 caves, first used as a refuge by an ancient king who on regaining his throne, commissioned magnificent carved images within the living rock. Later kings made further improvements and the caves contain over 150 images of the Buddha of which the largest is a colossal figure spanning 15 meters. Cave inscriptions from the 2nd Century BC are found and on the walls are many paintings most of which belong to the Kandy period (early 19th century). This temple is a perfect location to view evolution of ancient Sri Lankan art and is an important historical site due to the amalgamation of the material from many eras.

In the evening you will visit The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.

Light Coloured clothing with sleeves and trousers or skirts below the knee length are recommended.

• Since this is a religious site – the foot ware should be removed before entering you could wear socks if you wish to.

Temple of the Tooth which is commonly known as "Sri Dalada Maligawa" is situated in the city of hills, Kandy. It is an important shrine for Buddhists as it holds the tooth relic of Lord Buddha. It is famous for its carvings and beautiful art that is unique to Sri Lanka. The most important part of the Dalada Maligawa is the octagon (Pathirppuwa). The Sri Dalada Maligawa is the most sacred temple in the whole of Sri Lanka.
